PASS IT ON → Together we can stop domestic violence

What is the Pass It On Campaign?

Pass It On is a community led campaign highlighting our individual rights and communal responsibility for safe and healthy relationships. Support networks of friends and family are often the first place someone experiencing abuse will go to seek help and talk about their relationship. The Pass it On Campaign engages your community to normalize having these conversations and empowers us all to to reach out for help when needed.

By joining the campaign you’ll gain a deeper understanding of domestic violence, how common it is in our communities and resources to support survivors through La Casa de las Madres or local organizations in your area.

You’ll use email templates and social media cards created by La Casa to let your community know you understand domestic violence is a complicated and serious issue and you are a safe space, a ready ear and a knowledgeable resource towards supportive services for someone who may be experiencing abuse.

Who does domestic violence affect?

Domestic violence affects all of us. It occurs between people of all races, gender identities, nationalities, classes and educational levels. It takes place in all types of intimate relationships - heterosexual, same-sex, marriage, dating and former relationships. It can happen to anyone and is more common than we think.

  • 3 out of 4 Californians know someone who has experienced some form of abuse in their lifetime.

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 9 men report experiencing physical or sexual violence, or stalking, by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime.

  • 30% to 50% of transgender individuals experience intimate partner violence in their lives.

  • LGBTQ individuals experience abuse at similar or increased rates to heterosexual/cisgender folks.
