Why should I join Team La Casa?
The more relevant question here is why should you not join! In all seriousness, Team La Casa is a fantastic way to get into shape (or enhance your current fitness level), keep your stress levels LOW, and support La Casa’s essential resource!
I’m not a runner or an athlete….how can you possibly get me in shape to run 13.1 miles?
The 11 week training schedule is designed to accommodate for all levels of experience and ability. The philosophy behind the training schedule is one Marathon Matt has employed numerous times with a near 99% success rate.
If it’s your first time training for a half marathon, no problem! If you are a more seasoned runner, we have workouts that will work for you as well!
What do I get for raising $1,000 for La Casa de las Madres?
You get the opportunity to contribute to an excellent cause as all your fundraising goes directly to benefit the women, teens, older adults, and children La Casa serves 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Above and beyond this, you get:
- A world class training program including a comprehensive training schedule
- Three weekly professionally coached workouts
- Clinics and seminars about nutrition, hydration, and stretching
- A technical running shirt
- Your own personalized fundraising webpage and a fundraising strategy book
- Social events and 100+ great teammates to run with
- Discounts with PSOAS Massage/Bodywork, Sports Basement, and more
- Ongoing support from Marathon Matt and his team of USATF/RRCA/NASM certified coaches!
What if I cannot make it to all of the scheduled workouts?
No problem! You’ll receive a twice weekly email newsletter that includes detailed directions around what to do every day of the week. If you can’t make a workout or two, simply follow the direction provided in the newsletter.
What if I cannot finish the training program?
The training schedule includes multiple training levels and is designed to accommodate those who are new to running. If you absolutely cannot continue the training program to completion, you still have the option to fundraise to support the safety net of services La Casa provides to women and children seeking refuge from violence.
How can I raise $1,000?
$1,000 may seem like a lot, but if you think about it you can actually raise most of this money without too much effort.
#1-Send an email to all your friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances, etc. Tell them what you are doing and provide them a direct link to your fundraising webpage where they can make contributions. Assuming this email is received by 100 people and each person donates an average of $10 a piece, that’s $1,000!
#2-Many companies and corporations do some kind of dollar/gift matching program. Explore this possibility (or some other form of sponsorship) with your manager or your human resources department. For more information about gift matching programs, please contact .
#3-Throw a simple dinner party inviting as many people as you like and request that all who attend drop $20 in your Team La Casa donation bowl. Better yet, request $15 per course; if you have a salad, entrée, and dessert, that’s a decent chunk of change!
With these three simple strategies, you should be able to raise most (if not all) of the money you need. Additionally, your coach and program representative will provide tips, advice, and support throughout the duration of the program.
When is my $1,000 due?
The fundraising program is complete on October 22, 2012. There are two other check point dates to keep in mind:
-By Monday, September 3, you should be at $300
-By Monday, September 24, you should be at $600
OK! I’m ready to go! How do I sign up?
